Oslo kommune writes:

The sculpture Lioness with Cubs (1891) at St. Hanshaugen is one of the oldest sculptures in the Oslo Art Collection. In 2004, one of the two lion cubs was reported missing, and later a search was carried out for it without success. The disappearance is now part of the sculpture’s history. By inviting today’s artists to create a new one, we add a new layer to the story.

The sculpture Lioness with Cubs is made of cast iron, probably by the French sculptor Isidore Bonheur, but this has not been verified.
